CW I can recommend Hurricane Grey on the metal it looks quite good up close and it isn't metallic if you get the right one!
I will look the paint code up later.

Hurricane Grey is a 'Rover' paint IIRC - I nearly picked one up but it looked too light. The one I did get was too dark :slap: so I'll give your recommendation a go...

Crikey, I have a deadly foot don't I?

Anyway back to my original question - what fps are people setting their MP44s to as I will get one at some point soon and need to order a spring?

CW I used Tetrosyl Color Match GREY-01 HURRICANE GREY CC YAB169.
It is none metalic, under the flash it looks light next to other guns like my PPSH and home made Bergman.
I only used a light covering over the matt black it had on. Anyway if you want try one shade darker GREY-02 if you think it best but I am happy with mine.
You can see I have the wood slightly darker than a PPSH stock.

Damn, I was going to do a final spray job tomorrow of a matt grey Parkerised look but that looks good - I'm torn now!

Heh, after an aborted job last night (I get very frustrated putting gearboxes back together) I had another go tonight so the spring swap is done. I didn't bother cleaning up the grease as it didn't look too bad at all - nothing like the first MP40s were - and yes, there probably is the wrong grease on the piston but I dare say it will out live me

I had a quick 'hold all the pieces together and chrono' attempt just to be sure air was coming out the right end - all seemed well. I'll do a proper chrono check tomorrow. I bunged in a 1J systema spring as that was what I had lying around in a packet so I could at least positively identify it (as opposed to all the other springs rolling about which I neglected to label when the came out of other guns  )

Got to swipe the strap from the K98 yet but I'm getting there slowly...

Hi Weissmann

Welcome to the forum if that is your first posting.

Nice work so can you give me info on Humbrol Gun Blue?
I did a search bout could not find anything.

I used rosewood stain as well and french polish to seal it in.

Grusse Heil Weissman!
The first man in the UK to have a Shoei blank firing MP44!!!!!
Nice paint job - I'm going to get my downgrade doent hen look at Humbrol Metalcote - Lot of polishing but I think it will be worth it.
Figure to do an aluminium undercoat then a mixtue of the gunblue/gunmetal and a touch of wirewool to reveal the aluminium. Then polish............. and polish and polish.

These babies have really set the scene alight haven't they?

LOOK! I ham now four meggle man!

Looks great dude. I'm waiting on my mate doing a couple of weeks training out of the country, then I'm giving him all the metal parts (except the copper) to take to the armourer in his work who will blue them, and then cook 'em. Should look the mutts nuts if all goes well.

Weissmann can you give us some close up shots of your painted version. Also did you use gloss laquer, matt or satin. I've sprayed laquer over humbrol gun metal before but thought it got rid of the metalic shine. Did this happen to yours???

Worth a look here guys http://cs.finescale.com/forums/446567/ShowPost.aspx

How do use Humbrol Metal Coat?

Don't try this on anything important,
step1 base coat with acrylic black.
step2 to get a lighter colour mix with some aluminium
step 3 Airbrush this mix on and leave about 2 hours to fully dry
polish very lightly or you will tear the paint off
after all this you can apply a light coat of johnsons glear. (I presume this is lacquer)

So I presume you need an airbrsh to use this paint properly. I have one but I am not sure if all this is worth the time and how well it will hold up in the field but great on a model.

Also from here http://gregers.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=7580

As above, although IO would also emphasise the need for a protective coat, once applied and polished as you see fit.

Definitely a base coat of some description....matt grey or even black.

As you buff the paint, you obviously wear it down and, if you're not careful, the base coat will show through. I've applied a primer and a coat of metalcote, which I've then sealed in with Klear.
I then apply the metalcote proper over this so that, if I do polish too much, I still have 'metal' showing through.

This paint is also great for brush painting and is fairly easy to apply and leave no streaks. Buffing in a circular motion will also minimise any streaking that may occur.

There may be better metallic coats on the market, but these are readily available and great value.

Weissmann That is the best result I have seen untill now. Can you give us a close up picture of the grip?

Looks almost as good as the Shoei.

Heh, now you put those picture side by side I can't help but wonder why AGM didn't mould the fake pistol grip with the top cut out for the selector rotation (and also a fake screw head in the middle of the grip)? I know the selector doesn't swivel but it would look as if it did! It's the only glaring inaccuracy of an otherwise fine effort for a cheap specialised market gun.

Did they need the space for the motor?

The selector rotation is the Fire/Safe lever I hope you know

This pistol grip is wider on the AEG version to accommodate the motor.

While the grip is wider than RS to accommodate the motor there is no reason why the cosmetic detail on the outside couldn't have been modelled differently. Perhaps it was to stop numpties trying to rotate the lever instead of slide!

I have posted these pictures before, but now you will get them again.

There are plenty of room for a motor in the orginal grip! The angle of attak from the pinion gear would be a bit different but a small modification to the Ver2 box should take care of that.
